AHA Hospital Statistics™

AHA Hospital Statistics™ 2014 edition

The comprehensive reference source for analysis and comparison of hospital trends in utilization, personnel and finances in U.S. community hospitals for selected years from 1946 to 2012. Data comes from AHA Annual Surveys of Hospitals and U.S. Census Bureau population data. Data in the book includes:

  • Five year trends for utilization, personnel and finances for 2008-2012 by total U.S., bed size, U.S. Census division, and state
  • Facilities and services by U.S. Census division and state for 2012
  • Community health indicators by U.S.  Census division and metropolitan statistics area with 2012 Fiscal Year hospital data
  • U. S. Community hospitals wall chart (poster)

New fields added to the U.S.  facilities and services table (Table 7) include: Pediatric Emergency Department and Psychiatric Residential Treatment.

Hospital Statistics is also available with additional data on a CD. The CD includes tables from the book in MS Excel which allow the user to combine this data with other data sets, hone in on particular statistics, and create charts and graphs. The Hospital StatisticsCD enables easy data manipulation:

  • Create charts and graphs from eight Microsoft® Excel tables of aggregated hospital data visually display utilization, personnel, finance, beds, admissions, inpatient and outpatient visits data;
  • Benchmark facilities of similar size and location for hospital data comparison and analysis;
  • Gather industry intelligence to pinpoint emerging trends such as physician models, insurance products, and managed care contracts;
  • Examine hospital data in utilization, finances, and staffing to identify opportunities and areas of potential growth;
  • Incorporate other data sets such as census data, geographic information or company data, to focus health care market research on specific areas of interest.

The CD has additional years of data for Tables 3-6, than are contained in the book.

Hospital Statistics is used by health care provider organizations, research and strategic planning firms, consulting and finance firms, academic organizations and hospitals for comparative marketplace analysis and trend analysis and research.
